Ration Card Rules 2025: Mobile OTP & Grain ATM (No Thumb Impression Needed)

The Department of Food and Public Distribution has introduced significant updates to the Ration Card system for 2025, focusing on ease of access and digitization. The latest protocols allow beneficiaries to lift their entitled food grains using Mobile OTP (One Time Password) verification if their biometric (thumb impression) authentication fails. This measure aims to assist elderly beneficiaries and those with worn-out fingerprints who faced difficulties at Fair Price Shops (FPS).

Key Updates: Grain ATMs and OTP Verification

In addition to the OTP facility, the government is rolling out ‘Annapurti’ Grain ATMs across various states. These automated machines function similarly to banking ATMs but dispense grain (Rice/Wheat) instead of cash. Beneficiaries can obtain a full 50kg ration in under 5 minutes without standing in long queues or adhering to specific shop timings.
